BEING BEAUTIFUL??

Devotional

Being Beuatiful---01

I struggle with two major things in my life. I tend to compare myself to others and then I judge myself accordingly…I’m never the winner at the end of a comparison and my judgement is harsh! “I’m not good enough,” is what it boils down to.

Thoughts like these one’s come up…Other woman are prettier and look better on their well posed and edited photos on social media. They have  bodies that’s in-shape and fit, no cellulite, a nose that’s not too big or too small, smooth skin. In want that one’s legs, why can’t my hair and make-up look like that! …and the list goes on and on.

This mindset inhibits personal growth, because I can’t see my own value and worth -so how do I want others to see it if I can’t?

The question I had to ask myself was, “is this true beauty?”

Is this kind of beauty not just the packaging? And yes, it’s nice to receive a package that looks attractive. But what if you open a package that’s packaged in the most beautiful way – bows, ribbons, glitter – everything you need to really catch the eye. When you open  it… there’s only a pair of plain socks inside – or whatever item you think will be a disappointment.

What was the purpose of the beautiful packaging then? Just to deceive you?

I would rather get a package wrapped in old newspaper, but when you open it, it’s a valuable, beautiful package/gift on the inside. And you?

That’s the difference between the way the world sees beauty and how God sees beauty. Because, make no mistake, one day the “packaging” will be torn off and the “package” the inside, will be revealed before God. What will He see? Did you put all your effort in to decorate the outside or did you make the inside worth while?

I’m not saying we should neglect ourselves and not care about our bodies. Your body is a temple of God. It’s important to live a healthy lifestyle and take care of you body, but we shouldn’t spend all of our time and effort only on the outside and envy others because they look prettier, are skinnier, have expensive clothes and gets more “likes” on social media. We should work on our insides. When God looks at my heart I would like Him to see a caring and giving heart. I would like the Fruit of the Spirit (Gal.5:22-23) to be intertwined in my innermost being. I would love my life to look more and more like Jesus’s life looked on Earth.

Just as we are not supposed to be vain and show off our looks,  we should also not proclaim our beautiful insides to the world! The Bible says your one hand shouldn’t know what your other hand does. If you’re kind to someone or help someone, we shouldn’t tell everyone about it like the pharisees did. Keep it to yourself and know that God – who is the One who matters – will see it and will be pleased.

People with a beautiful inside will in any case shine so brightly, people will notice you. Not for your worldly beauty, but see something different in you and be drawn to that beauty.

So let’s stop focusing on “worldly beauty” and let’s work on having “true beauty” – the kind of beauty that really matters and can make a lasting difference.

Hope you’ll have a blessed and beautiful day 🙂

“Feeling” nothing…

Devotional

Its not about me its about You Lord

Religion is not just about ’emotions,’ meaning that when I ‘feel’ good, God is good but when I ‘feel’ sad, frustrated, angry.. then God is not so good anymore.

We want to “get” something from church, worship and our relationship from God but when we don’t ‘feel’ anything – joy, peace… – or get a specific message for ourselves during Bible study or church, or if we don’t receive what we prayed for…IMMEDIATELY and in our own way, then we are disappointed with God.  We say: “God doesn’t love me, ” “He doesn’t care how I feel or about my situation,” “Does He even know I exist and that I’m struggling?”

YES, He knows about you and your problems and He loves you dearly, BUT we are missing the point!  God did not create the world for us and to please us in every way we want.  Everything is about Him and His glory…He is the Creator…not us!

So we should actually be asking:  “What can I do to please God?” “Even if I don’t ‘feel’ anything during worship, let me continue in any case because it’s not about me. It’s not what I can get out of it.”

We need to make a mindset change and try to not ‘use’ God for our own benefit.  As soon as you start submitting to God’s will and renewing your mind by thinking of Him before yourself, you will start ‘feeling’ peace in your life…and no, it doesn’t mean you’re not going to have obstacles you need to overcome, you can now just overcome them WITH God, in His will.  He wants to help you because He really cares! But God is not just Love, He is also Just and Righteous, so He will go against His own nature if He tries to please people to earn their favour…and He doesn’t need to do that, He is God.

Take some time to sit and think if you’re not maybe doing or saying things that’s blocking you from hearing God’s Word.  He’s waiting patiently, in love, for you to turn to Him with an open heart…not a perfects heart…just a willing, open heart and He will help you to clean it again.

God really loves you!

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

Romans 12:2 ” Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.  Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – His good, pleasing and perfect will.”

Hebrews 5:11-12 “We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you because you no longer try to understand. In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again.  You need solid food!”

2 Timothy 2:11-13,15,19 “Here is a trustworthy saying:  If we died with Him, we will also live with Him; if we endure, we will also reign with Him; If we disown Him, He will also disown us; if we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot disown Himself.

“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.”

“Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription:  “The Lord knows those who are His,” and “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.”

Hope you all have a blessed week!

My very first post

Devotional

I am sitting here ready to start blogging but suddenly the moment is so big I don’t know where to start.  My interests cover quite a few areas…as you will still notice 😉 … and I’m one of those not so patient people who wants to share everything immediately! Since that is not possible, I thought it will be appropriate for me to start with a devotional post.  I will still share many creative ideas of all sorts and show you projects I tackle in our house, but the first post I want to dedicate to my Heavenly Father.

JOY

Every 1st of January each year, instead of attempting a new years resolution – can you still remember yours 😉 – I pray and ask God for a word and picture for that year.  This year I received the word JOY and the picture of a bird (FYI Inyoni means birds in Zulu.)  When we look at the word joy we think of good times and laughter.  Which is not wrong but if we read in the Bible it tells us to rejoice in good and bad times.  While Paul was in jail he wrote in Philippians 4:4-7 “Rejoice in the Lord always.  I will say it again; Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all.  The Lord is near.  Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard you hearts and you minds in Christ Jesus.”

The fact of the matter is that ALL of us goes through trails.  Sometimes we feel that the trail to non-trail ratio is 9:1!  But if we fall into self pity and anger for each of these ‘trails’ or ‘storms’ in our life, we are going to be very unhappy people.  In Proverbs 15:15 (God’s Word translation) it says:  “Every day is a terrible day for a miserable person, but a cheerful heart has a continual feast.”  If we can learn to find joy within these difficult times we grow stronger as a person, we grow in faith but we also start enjoying life more!  And other people enjoy it a lot more to be around us!!

Finding your joy in the Lord doesn’t mean we need to ignore all the bad stuff and pretend it’s not there, we can share these feelings with Him.  I have cried tons of tears before the Lord and never once have I got up without the most amazing feeling of peace that “everything will be ok…” He is there to help us, but we need to reach out to Him.

How can we find our joy in the Lord?

  1. Be thankful
  2. Use your talents – I definitely find my joy while I’m painting, or sewing or being creative in a way.
  3. Be obedient to God’s Word
  4. Care for others – one of the most effective ways of lifting your spirits, is to do something for someone else without expecting anything in return!!!

Joy is a gift God gives us everyday..it is up to us if we are going to open this gift and enjoy it or bury it under all of our negativity.  I hope and pray that you will choose to open it!!!

XOXO
